Sahitya Akademi Awards

  • Presented by – Sahitya Akademi
  • Conferred to writers for their outstanding
  • Literary works: Recognizes literary works from 24 languages
  • 22 languages – 8th schedule
  • English and Rajasthani: Award – Rs. 1 lakh of cash with a copper plaque.
  • Sahitya Akademi: National Academy of Letters
  • Inauguration – 12th March 1954 1956 – registered as a society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860.
Functions
  • Publication & promotion of literary works.
  • Development of Indian letters.
  • Promotion of culture unity in India.
Other Awards

Jnanpith award

Highest literary award in India. • Conferred to literary works from 22 languages
of 8th schedule along with English • Cash award of Rs. 11 lakhs, a citation, and a
bronze replica of goddess Saraswati.

Bhasha Samman

Given for other languages that are not
formally recognized by the Akademi.

Yuva Puraskar

Annually given to young writers of outstanding
literary works. • Given in one of 24 major Indian languages. • Instituted in 2011. • Recognizes young writers – age under 35. • Cash prize of Rs. 50,000 & an engraved
copper plaque.

Bal Sahitya Puraskar

Given to authors for their contribution to
children literature. • Instituted in 2010. • Cash prize of Rs. 50,000 & an engraved
copper plaque.
