Location of Karivalamvanthanallur

Karivalamvanthanallur is located in the Tenkasi district of southern Tamil Nadu. The excavation site is at Malayadipatti, close to the settlement and along the banks of the Vaippar River.

Its geographical position is important because the region may have been linked with an ancient overland route connecting the eastern and western coasts of southern India. Such a location would have allowed the settlement to participate in the movement of raw materials, manufactured products, traders and cultural ideas.
