PM has inaugurated the second United Nations World Geospatial Information Congress (UNWGIC) in Hyderabad.
About UNWGIC?
- The UNWGIC is organised every four years by the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM).
- Aims to enhance worldwide collaboration in the management and capacities of geospatial information between Member States and relevant stakeholders.
- First United Nations World Geospatial Information Congress held in Deqing, Zhejiang Province, China from 19 to 21 November 2018.
- Theme of UNWGIC 2022 is ‘Geo-Enabling the Global Village: No one should be left behind’.
UNWGIC 2022
- Five-day conference is being hosted by the Department of Science & Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology and convened by
the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management.
- It will discuss how crucial integrated geospatial information infrastructure and knowledge services are to advancing the accomplishment and oversight of sustainable development objectives.
- Focus on societal well-being, tackle environmental and climate change issues, embrace technical advancement and digital transformation, and spark a thriving economy.
- It also emphasises on the importance of international cooperation and coordination in the development of human data-linked to geography.
- The event involves the participation of over 2,000 delegates from over 120 countries across the world.
