Why in News ?
The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena, distributed Honey Bee-Boxes and Toolkits to 130 beneficiaries.
News in Brief
- The program was organized under the ‘Gramodyog Vikas Yojna’ of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Ministry of Micro,
Small and Medium Enterprises, State Office Delhi, Government of India.
- Till date, over 2 lakh bee boxes and honey colonies have been distributed to 20 thousand farmers and beekeepers, creating new avenues for employment in rural areas and enhancing farmer’s income.
- Additionally, a Leather Footwear Manufacturing Machine & Tool Kits were provided to a Self-Help Group under the Leather Industry, benefiting 10 beneficiaries.
- Commitment of strengthening the ‘self-reliant India’ campaign by promoting Khadi and village industry development programs in Delhi’s villages through KVIC.
About Gramodyog Vikas Yojana (GVY)
- It was launched in March 2020.
- GVY aims to promote and develop the village industries through common facilities, technological modernization, training etc.
- It is one of the two components of the Khadi Gramodyog Vikas Yojana which is a Central Sector Scheme (CSS).
- The other component of Khadi Gramodyog Vikas Yojana is the Khadi Vikas Yojana (KVY) which includes two new components such as Rozgar Yukt Gaon, Design House (DH)
What are the components?
- Research & Development and Product Innovation: Institutions that plan to conduct out product development, new inventions, design development, process of product diversification, etc. will get R&D funding.
- Marketing & Publicity: The V.I. institutions will receive market help in the form of product catalogue creation, industry directories, market research, innovative marketing strategies, buyer seller meetups, exhibition setup, etc.
- Capacity Building: Under the Human Resource Development and Skill Training components, the current MDTCs and institutes of excellence would effectively handle the exclusive capacity building of employees as well as the craftsmen.
What is KVIC?
- KVIC is a statutory body established under the Khadi and Village Industries Commission Act, 1956.
- The KVIC is charged with the planning, promotion, organisation and implementation of programmes for the development of Khadi and other village industries in the rural areas in coordination with other agencies engaged in rural development wherever necessary.
- It functions under the Ministry of MSMEs.
- The broad objectives that the KVIC are
- The social objective of providing employment.
- The economic objective of producing saleable articles.
- The wider objective of creating self-reliance amongst the poor and building up of a strong rural community spirit.
