Ministry of Commerce & Industry is responsible for formulating and implementing policies that promote and regulate the country’s external trade.
- The Department plays a vital role in strengthening India’s position in the global trading system by facilitating exports, enhancing market access, and supporting the competitiveness of Indian goods and services in international markets.
- The Department works towards creating a transparent, predictable, and supportive policy environment for exporters, industry stakeholders, and trade institutions.
- Through the development and implementation of the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP), it provides the strategic framework for promoting exports and expanding India’s trade engagement with the world.
- A key focus of the Department is to expand India’s export potential by improving trade facilitation, strengthening trade infrastructure, and supporting businesses in accessing global markets.
- The Department also represents India in bilateral, regional, and multilateral trade negotiations and works to build strong commercial partnerships with countries across the globe..
- In addition, the Department oversees various export promotion bodies, commodity boards, and trade development institutions that support sector-specific export growth and market development.
- By promoting international trade, facilitating policy reforms, and supporting exporters, the Department of Commerce contributes significantly to India’s economic growth, employment generation, and integration with the global economy.
