Why in News ?

More than 26000 participants from 149 countries have registered to join the virtual Summit

About the summit

    • To bring the spotlight on accelerating affordable and sustainable clean green energy by showcasing and deliberating on innovative state of the art next generation technologies in solar power.
    • The first World Solar Technology Summit (WSTS) is being organised by the International Solar Alliance (ISA).
    • Tripartite agreement between India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, the World Bank and the International Solar Alliance is also set to be inked.
    • Partnership agreements on the implementation of 47 projects between ISA and NTPC.
    • Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), as the convenor of ISA Global Leadership Task Force on Innovation, is working with ISA in organizing the summit.

International Solar Alliance

  • It aims at lowering the cost of technology and finance, brings together countries with rich solar potential
  • It entered into force on December 6th, 2017.
  • Based on recent amendment all members of the United Nations can join the International Solar Alliance (ISA).
  • Member countries. pledged to deployment of over 1,000 GW of solar energy and mobilize more than USD 1,000 billion into solar power by 2030.
  • Solar is key source of affordable and reliable energy and play significant role in achieving the universal energy access goal (SDG 7)
  • Member countries : 67 countries have signed and ratified the ISA Framework Agreement. As of June 2020, the ISA Framework Agreement has been signed by 86 countries.
  • Major programmes under ISA are
    • Scaling Solar Application for agricultural use
    • Affordable Finance at Scale
    • Solar Mini Grids
    • Scaling Solar Rooftops
    • Solar E-mobility & Storage
    • Large-Scale Solar Parks
  • Solar Alliance play a significant role in achieving the universal energy access goal (SDG 7).
