International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is an inter-governmental organisation.

IRENA Statute stipulates that membership in the agency is open to those states that are members of the United Nations, and to regional intergovernmental economic-integration organisations.

Members must be willing and able to act in accordance with the objectives and activities laid down in the statute.

India is also a Member.

  • Also as a centre of excellence and a repository of policy, technology, resource and financial knowledge on renewable energy.
  • IRENA promotes the widespread adoption and sustainable use of all forms of renewable energy.
  • The adoption including bio-energy, geothermal, hydropower, ocean, solar and wind energy.
  • All these adoptions aims at the pursuit of sustainable development, energy access, energy security and low-carbon economic growth and prosperity.
  • More than 180 countries actively engaged with IRENA.
