Seven new defence companies, carved out of Ordnance Factory Board (OFB), were dedicated to the Nation at a function organized by Ministry of Defence.
Key Facts
- Aim : To enhance functional autonomy, efficiency and unleash new growth potential & innovation, Government had decided to convert OFB from a Government Department into seven 100 per cent Government-owned corporate entities
- As a measure to improve self-reliance in the defense preparedness of the country.
- The seven new Defense companies are:
- Munitions India Limited (MIL);
- Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVANI);
- Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited (AWE India);
- Troop Comforts Limited (TCL);
- Troop Comfort Items (TCI);
- Yantra India Limited (YIL);
- India Optel Limited (IOL) and Gliders India Limited (GIL);
- These companies have commenced business from October 01, 2021.

- These new companies would play an important role in import substitution, in line with the vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’.
- An order book of more than Rs 65,000 crore reflect the increasing confidence of the country in these companies.

Ordnance Factory Board
- Industrial setup which functions under the Department of Defense Production of the Ministry of Defense.
- Engaged in production, testing, logistics, research, development and marketing of a comprehensive product range in the area of land, sea and air systems.
- Indian Ordnance Factories, headquartered at Kolkata.
- It is a conglomerate of 41 Factories, 9 Training Institutes, 3 Regional Marketing Centres and 4 Regional Controller of Safety.
- 41 Ordnance Factories geographically distributed all over the country at 24 different locations.
- Prime customers of Indian Ordnance Factories are the Indian Armed Forces.
- Board Constitutions
- The Apex Board is headed by Director General Ordnance Factories (DGOF) as Chairman
- Has 9 Members in the rank of Additional DGOF.
- Divided into 5 operating divisions
