Why in News ?
The speed of nation’s progress got new Shakti through launching of an ambitious initiative PM GatiShakti on October 13.
- PM GatiShakti is a national master plan for multi-model connectivity and extension of holistic governance which will give impetus to 21st century India.
Key Facts
- It is a 100 lakh crore national infrastructure master plan which will make a foundation for holistic infrastructure and give an integrated pathway
Source : NITI Aayog to our economy.
- This is a development project including from aviation to agriculture and road to railways.
- Scheme includes Empowered Group of Secretaries (EGOS), Network Planning Group (NPG) and Technical Support Unit (TSU) with required technical competencies.
Major Focus

- The Gati Shakti plan will help raise the global profile of local manufacturers and help them compete with their counterparts worldwide.
- It also raises possibilities of new future economic zones.
- India needs to increase both manufacturing and exports.
- GatiShakti will bring synergy to create a world class, seamless multi-modal transport network in India.
- Employ modern technology and the latest IT tools for coordinated planning of infrastructure.
- Improved Industrial parks and logistics parks need to grow in size to be globally competitive.
- The GatiShakti programme marks a paradigm shift in decision making to break the silos of departmentalism.
Proposed Plan

- All the existing and proposed economic zones have been mapped along with the multimodal connectivity infrastructure in a single platform.
- Individual projects of different line Ministries would be examined and sanctioned in future within the parameters of the overall Plan, leading to synchronisation of efforts.
- Under this plan private players will get a boost to invest in National infrastructure
- Easy clearances and monetary help available to them.
- This project will also provide last-mile connectivity to the economic zones in a limited timeframe.
- Gati Shakti will have 200 types of databases, in which the physical facilities, district administration offices, rail, road and gas lines, health and police along with facilities like water bodies, reserve parks and forests will be mapped by GIS system.
Need for such a Plan ?
- In the past taxpayers money was insulted through a lethargic approach towards development work.
- Departments were working in silos.
- There was no coordination on projects.
- Thus, this plan was launched under which development will take place incorporating quality infrastructure in a holistic manner.
- Gati shakti plan joins different departments for a coordinated development of projects including from aviation to agriculture and road to railways.
