Why in News?
- Since 1970, September 27 has been designated as World Tourism Day.
- This day is observed yearly to encourage tourism across the world.
History
- The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) was established on this day (September 27) in 1970, which coincided with the decision to celebrate World Tourism Day.
- In 1997, a host nation was chosen, and business representatives were urged to attend.
- It was agreed upon at a conference in Istanbul, Turkey.
- At each yearly conference, a theme was chosen.
- The goal was to raise awareness and enhance tourism on a global scale.
Objective
- Today, its purpose is to shed attention on the importance of tourism and how it generates life-changing possibilities for those who benefit from it.
- An entire industry is engaged, developing social ideals, cultural habits, political ethics, and economic progress all at the same time.
World Tourism Day Theme 2022
- The theme of World Tourism Day Theme 2022 is ‘rethink tourism’.
- World Tourism Day this year is being hosted by Bali, Indonesia.
New National Tourism Policy
- To mark World Tourism Day, the country intends to announce a detailed National Tourism Policy by the end of December.
- The government is seeking feedback from global travel operators with the goal of focusing on future-ready tourism.
- The government intends to promote health and spiritual tourism, with a specific emphasis on infrastructure, under the planned National Tourism Policy.
- New places are given extra attention under this policy.
- The tourism ministry has approved a budget of Rs 7000 crores for the development of tourism infrastructure across the nation.
- Under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme, 76 projects in 30 states and union territories have been sanctioned for the construction of tourism infrastructure across diverse themes.
- Air connections will also be improved as the government plans to increase the number of airports from 140 to 220 by 2025.
The PRASHAD Scheme
- The PRASHAD Scheme, which has sanctioned 39 projects in 24 states, aims to improve tourism amenities surrounding spiritual destinations.
- The development of infrastructure at these tourist, pilgrimage, and heritage destinations/cities focuses on:
- Cleanliness, security, universal accessibility, service delivery, skill development, and local community livelihood.
Upcoming Projects by the Government
- The tourism ministry also recently introduced the Swadesh Darshan Scheme 2.0, with the goal of developing sustainable and responsible destinations through a tourist-centric strategy.
- In addition, the government has proposed a Rs 4.5 lakh crore programme for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector.
- The government will launch the Ram temple circuit, the Buddhist circuit, the Himalayan circuit, and the BR Ambedkar tourist circuit to encourage domestic and international tourism.
- Special trains would transport tourists to notable temples, historical sites, and religious sites.

Why in News?
Every year on September 29, World Heart Day is observed to raise awareness about the growing concerns regarding heart health and cardiovascular disorders.
World Heart Day History
- Antoni Bayés de Luna, president of the World Heart Federation from 1997 to 1999, proposed World Heart Day.
- The inaugural event was held on September 24, 2000.
- Until 2011, it was held on the last Sunday in September.
- It was later agreed to mark the day on September 29.
2022 Theme
- ‘USE HEART FOR EVERY HEART’ is the theme of World Heart Day 2022.
- World Heart Day is a time to pause and reflect on how we may utilise our hearts to benefit mankind, nature, and ourselves.
- According to the World Heart Federation (WHF), addressing risk factors such as cigarettes, bad food, and physical inactivity can prevent at least 80% of premature deaths from heart disease and stroke.
- Use heart:
- This involves thinking creatively and making sound conclusions.
- To behave courageously.
- To assist others.
- To participate in this essential cause.
- According to the WHF, it is one of the few things that has the capacity to unify all people.
- For Every Heart:
- This phrase includes the word ‘FOR’.
- It is necessary to change the action to serve everyone.
- It is supported by three pillars:
- Use heart for humanity.
- Use heart for Nature.
- Use heart for You.
Indian Initiatives
- Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR), launched the district’s Indian Hypertension Control Initiative (IHCI).
- Maharashtra’s AI-Driven Program:
- Ischemic heart disease raises the risk of heart attacks, the most prevalent of which is ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI), which causes the most premature fatalities.
- The Maharashtra government has created the STEMI programme, a state-wide Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven project, to address the current issue.
- It is recognised by the National Health Mission (NHM) as an advanced diagnosis and care coordination programme.
- The goal is to provide quick treatment at all state-run medical facilities, as well as a speedy detection of cardiac disorders.
- The Cardiological Society of India (CSI) and Skills Academic Training and Simulation (SATS) announced the launch of an initiative to raise awareness about the imminent danger of Sudden Cardiac Death (SCD) and teach basic principles of Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) (CPR).
