Yunqing Tang, an Assistant Professor at the University of California, Berkeley, will receive the SASTRA Ramanujan Prize in 2022.
What is SASTRA Ramanujan Prize?
- The Shanmugha Arts, Science, Technology & Research Academy (SASTRA) (located near Kumbakonam) established the award in 2005, with a monetary reward of $10,000.
- It is given yearly to those aged 32 and under who have made remarkable achievements in the area of mathematics and have been influenced in some way by Srinivasa Ramanujan.
- The prize for 2022 will be presented at SASTRA University during the International Conference on Number Theory in December.

- The prize will be presented at the International Conference on Number Theory, which will be held at SASTRA University from December 20-22, 2022.
- She was born in China and received her B.Sc. from Peking University in 2011, after which she attended Harvard University for further studies. She finished her PhD under the direction of Mark Kisin in 2016.
Srinivasa Ramanujan (1887-1920)
- He was the greatest Indian mathematician of the twentieth century.
- He was also one of the world’s best mathematicians of all time.
- Ramanujan made significant contributions to number theory, working on elliptic functions, continuous fractions, and infinite series.
- During his short lifetime, Ramanujan produced roughly 3,900 findings, the majority of which were identities and equations.
- The Ramanujan prime, Ramanujan theta function, mock theta functions, and partition formulas are among the most prominent.
