Why in the News?

Launched on May 20 last year after a successful 15-day pilot project, the scheme has gained popularity among local artisans and workers.

As of November 9 this year, 1,134 outlets are operational at 1,037 stations across 27 states.
Tamil Nadu leads with 146 outlets at 137 stations, West Bengal with a similar number at 123 stations, and Uttar Pradesh in third place with 112 outlets at 105 stations.
Up to November 9, 39,847 direct beneficiaries have availed opportunities under this scheme.
Considering five indirect beneficiaries for each allotment, the total beneficiaries amount to 1,43,232.
The scheme has recorded total sales of Rs 49.58 crore.

The Ministry of Railways has launched the One Station One Product (OSOP) scheme over Indian Railways.
Objectives to promote the Vocal Local vision of the Government of India.
It provides a market for local/indigenous products and creates additional income opportunities for the marginalised sections of society.
Under the scheme, OSOP outlets at railway stations are allotted for showcasing, selling and giving high visibility to indigenous /local products.
The scheme’s pilot was started on 25.03.2022 and as of 01.05.2023, 728 stations are covered with 785 OSOP outlets in 21 States and 3 Union Territories across the country.
These OSOP stalls are designed through the National Design Institute for uniformity.

‘One Station One Product’ is specific to that place and includes artefacts made by indigenous tribes, handlooms by local weavers, handicrafts like world-famous wood carving, chikankari and zari-zardozi work on clothes, or spices tea, coffee and other processed/semi-processed food items/products indigenously grown in the area.
For example in
- North East India, Varieties of Assamese Pitha, Traditional Rajbongshi Dress, Jhapi, Local textiles, and Jute Products (Cap, Gamocha, Doll) are available on OSOP Stalls.
- Jammu & Kashmir area, Kashmiri Girda, Kashmiri Kahwa & Dry Fruits are famous, in South India Cashew products, spices, and Chinnalapatti Handloom Sarees are catching the attention of passengers.
- In the western part of the country, Embroidery & Zari Zardozi, Coconut Halva, locally grown fruits, processed foods, and Bandhani are famous.
