    • Compilation of key indices such as the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Index of Industrial Production (IIP).
    • Conducting large-scale surveys such as the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS), National Sample Surveys (NSS), and Annual Survey of Industries (ASI).
Organizational Structure

  • National Statistical Office (NSO):
    • Comprising the Central Statistics Office (CSO) and the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO), it handles data collection and publication.
  • Programme Implementation Wing:
    • Ensures effective execution and monitoring of key government projects.

Reforms and Initiatives

  • National Indicator Framework (NIF): Developed to monitor progress on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • Introduction of the Data Governance Quality Index (DGQI) to assess the efficiency of ministries in data management.
