Why in News ?
The ambitious 130-km long Indo-Bangla Friendship Pipeline (IBFPL), constructed at a cost of ₹377.08 crore, is likely to be commissioned by next month, official sources.
Key Facts
- The international oil pipeline, IBFPL, will carry fuel from Assam-based Numaligarh Refinery Limited’s (NRL) marketing terminal at Siliguri
in West Bengal to the Parbatipur depot of Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC).
- This project cost a total of Rs. 346 crore.
- This 130 km pipeline, now under construction, will have a 1 million metric tonne annual capacity.
- Following the official inauguration in March 2020, the pipeline’s construction got under way.
- The Bangladeshi Meghna Petroleum Limited and the Indian Numaligarh Refinery Limited are working together to complete the project.
- Bangladesh would first purchase about 2.5 lakh tonnes of diesel.
- The following years will see a rise of 4 to 5 lakh tonnes.
- According to the agreement, Bangladesh would import diesel for 15 years starting on the first day of supply.
